Facebook has kind of exploded in the media lately, but so far I didn't register, since I don't see the use of networking, just to network. And yesterday someone pointed me to their user agreement, and now I'm definitely ain't gonna register. Some of the parts that made me react are the following:
"We may share your information with third parties, including responsible companies with which we have a relationship"
"We may be required to disclose customer information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with law or to protect our interests or property. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents or government agencies."
"Thefacebook also collects information about you from other sources, such as newspapers and instant messaging services. This information is gathered regardless of your use of the Web Site."
All of this makes it a very powerful tool in the wrong hands, and I see no reason to trust that they will handle my personal information carefully, when they have a policy like that.
